Who we are
At AWU, we believe every woman deserves a voice,
a community, and a path forward.
Our Story
Arab Women United is a nonprofit organization devoted to empowering Arab women through culturally responsive support, inclusive education, and intentional community-building. Rooted in the belief that every woman deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued, our mission is to create safe and affirming spaces where Arab, immigrant, and BIPOC women can rise, lead, and thrive.
We offer leadership development, healing-centered programming, and access to vital resources that uplift women across generations. By centering the unique experiences of Arab women, we work to dismantle systemic barriers, challenge harmful stigmas, and cultivate a strong sisterhood rooted in shared culture, resilience, and pride.
Through collaboration, storytelling, and advocacy, Arab Women United stands at the intersection of tradition and progress, honoring where we come from while boldly shaping the future we deserve.
Being part of the SheLeads internship has felt like finding my place among women whose energy, drive, and growth mindsets deeply resonated with me. Each interaction reflected a shared passion for leadership, self-development, and success. I was surrounded by confident, hardworking individuals whose presence alone inspired me to keep showing up as my best self. The sense of belonging, mutual empowerment, and genuine connection made this experience truly special.
I'm Fatema Sikdar, an Arab woman passionate about women's health, empowerment, and giving back. Volunteering has always been close to my heart, especially with Arab Women United, where I've found purpose in uplifting and connecting with other women. Through AWU, I've built meaningful, lasting relationships that I truly cherish.
My experience with Arab Women United has genuinely been amazing, It's always been a fun time while I'm also being educated and informed. I've always felt so welcomed as an Arab woman who hasn't always had the best experience. I always look forward to events that Arab Women United hosts because they never disappoint, always going all out and I love it
Joining Arab Women United has been one of the best decisions I've made! Connecting with so many inspiring women and building relationships has been a true highlight. On top of that, managing the AWU WSU's Instagram has been anincredible learning experience, and having the privilege of representing Arab Women United's mission. If you're thinking about joining Arab Women United, don't think twice.
Joining Arab Women United as a freshman this year has been an incredibly meaningful experience for me. From day one, I felt welcomed and surrounded by inspiring, supportive women who make this community so special. I'm truly grateful for the friendships I've formed, the conversations shared, and the sense of belonging I've found here. I can't wait for all the memories and connections yet to come!
Volunteering with Arab Women United as a SheLeads Intern has been a deeply transformative experience, blending mentorship in leadership and personal branding with lessons on carrying identity with pride and purpose. Through grant research, I've contributed to building AWU's foundation for future growth and global empowerment of Arab women. Most importantly, AWU gave me a true sense of community; collaborating with like-minded women across diverse fields and finding strength in shared experiences. It reminded me I'm not alone in navigating these spaces, and I'm grateful to grow within this movement.
